The Chief Petty Officer (CPO) written examination and interview play an important role in identifying experienced and capable leaders within the naval forces. The written examination is structured to evaluate a candidate’s understanding of naval systems, operational knowledge, technical skills, and leadership ability. It includes assessment of naval rules, standard operating procedures, and problem-solving skills required in real-life operational situations.

The interview stage allows candidates to demonstrate their communication abilities, leadership mindset, and clarity about the Navy’s mission and responsibilities. During the interview, emphasis is placed on personal experience, decision-making capacity, sense of responsibility, and commitment to mentoring junior personnel. Candidates are also assessed on their ability to motivate teams and lead with confidence and discipline.

Together, the written examination and interview ensure that selected Chief Petty Officers reflect professionalism, integrity, and dedication. These assessments help maintain the Navy’s core values while strengthening leadership, coordination, and overall effectiveness of the naval force.
